We're on the lookout for a skilled and motivated Plant Operator to join our team at Washer Road, Te Puke, on a permanent, full-time basis

Reporting to the Coolstore Manager, you'll play a key role in maintaining and optimising the performance of our coolstore and plant operations. This is a hands-on role that involves planning and executing maintenance, managing plant equipment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.

To thrive in this position, you'll be technically minded, organised, and proactive , someone who takes pride in keeping operations running smoothly while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven technical knowledge in plant operations, refrigeration, or cool storage systems.
  • Experience in maintenance planning and contractor management, including purchase order processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, document solutions, and drive cost-effective outcomes.
  • Excellent administration, literacy, and numeracy skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and database management.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills — confident working with contractors, managers, and team leaders.
  • Commitment to health and safety, with a proactive approach to hazard reporting and compliance.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as required during busy seasons.

Key aspects of the role:

  • Manage and maintain plant rooms, cooling towers, and equipment, ensuring all documentation and SOPs are up to date.
  • Oversee coolstore maintenance and contractor work, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost savings.
  • Support forklift fleet management, including mechanical and technical performance (RFID systems).
  • Monitor and manage temperature control and ethylene systems in line with DOS standards.
  • Conduct operator care checks, including after-hours alarm monitoring and callouts.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance planning, reporting, and investigations.
  • Drive continuous improvement, promote EastPack's Growing Excellence culture, and maintain a safe, tidy workplace.
