This role is permanent part time at 25 hours per week. Hours and days are negotiable.
Key Responsibilities:
Support for Disabled Persons and their Whānau: Aspire holds a DIAS contract for the Canterbury region. The Information and Community Coordinator will support disabled persons and their families to find and access the supports they need.
Information and Resource Dissemination: Provide professional and comprehensive advice to clients, their families, and the public. You will research and deliver accessible information on a wide range of health and disability resources, assistive products, and relevant government legislation, including the UN Convention on the rights of Disabled People.
Community and Stakeholder Events: Act as a liaison between Aspire Canterbury and external organizations. This involves promoting our services, attending community expos and events, and building relationships with a diverse network of community organisations, health agencies, government bodies, and cultural representative groups. The goal is to ensure relevant information reaches the people we serve.
Retail Assistance: Assist in our retail shop occasionally as needed, particularly when retail staff are attending events and expos. Duties will include providing professional assistance to customers with inquiries about our products and services, processing sales and payments accurately, and ensuring the retail space remains tidy, well-stocked, and presentable.
Total Mobility Programme: Assist the team with provision of the Total Mobility scheme for clients. This includes assisting with new applications, conducting follow-ups via email, phone, and in-person visits, and ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
Required Skills and Attributes:
Experience in the Health and Disability or Social Work sectors: This role requires a wide working knowledge of the health and disability and/or social work sector. Candidates will need a good knowledge of the social and community services options and funding options that are available.
Knowledge of Disability Frameworks: A commitment to the social model of disability and a working knowledge of current MoH Disability Models and the NZ Disability Strategy.
Cultural Competence: A willingness to enhance knowledge of Te reo Māori, tikanga, and the structures of Papatipu Rūnanga and Iwi as they relate to the Treaty of Waitangi.
Communication and IT Proficiency: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for engaging with a wide variety of people. Strong research and presentation skills are required, as is an intermediate to advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Professional and Ethical Conduct: Demonstrated ability to provide services in a respectful, ethical, and professional manner.
Prerequisites:
- A full, clean driver's license.
- A clean Police Record.
