Junior Accountant

The Firm:

David Ward Chartered Accountant Limited is a well-established accounting practice with a good reputation based in Papanui. We pride ourselves on providing quality service to small – medium sized businesses and rental property owners in the Canterbury region.

We are looking for a full-time junior accountant to join our friendly and supportive team.

The Role:

You will be assisting in the preparation of clients' annual financial statements, tax returns and various associated compliance duties with the view of progressing to taking responsibility of jobs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting in the preparation of GST / Income tax / FBT / RWT / PAYE returns and filing with Inland Revenue.
• Assisting in the preparation of annual financial statements for companies, partnerships, sole traders and trusts.
• Preparation of payroll for clients.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with accountants and office teams to ensure smooth coordination of tasks.
• Office administration jobs which are required to be done.

Key Skills Include:

• A degree in accounting or similar (or studying towards one).
• A basic understanding of Xero/MYOB would be preferable.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
• Clear communication skills and strong time management.
• Good analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Sound computer skills including Microsoft office suite (e.g. Excel and word).
• Good spelling, grammar and command of the English language.
• Fantastic verbal and written English.
• Sound technical accounting knowledge and the ability to learn new systems.
• Willingness to work collaboratively in a small team.
