OUR LOCATION
Waiheke Island is a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. We enjoy vineyards, olive groves, and sea views overlooking the stunning Hauraki Gulf. Waiheke is renowned for its stunning beaches, fishing, bush walks, vineyards, and excellent restaurants.
The Service Manager leads our front-of-house team and ensures exceptional guest experiences across all areas of Cable Bay. This hands-on role combines daily operations with leadership, involving running shifts, training staff, managing rosters, supporting special functions, and contributing to the business's success. It's a full-time role. The requirement is a minimum of 2 years of experience in a comparable venue or a minimum Bachelor's Degree. Hours: No early mornings or very late evenings (except for occasional special events).
Key Responsibilities
Service Leadership & Training
- Lead the development and implementation of service standards across all FOH outlets.
- Plan menus in consultation with the Chefs.
- Design, deliver, and document staff training, development, and onboarding programmes.
- Mentor and coach team members to maintain a positive, consistent service culture.
Shift Management & Operations
- Lead FOH operations during service, ensuring smooth delivery and high guest satisfaction.
- Conduct team briefings, allocate sections, and manage guest flow and engagement.
- Oversee special functions, ensuring coordinated and seamless delivery across food, wine, and service.
- Ensure all dining areas meet health, safety, and cleanliness standards at all times.
Staffing & Rostering Support
- Assist with the selection, training, supervision, and performance management of FOH and kitchen staff.
- Support recruitment and onboarding activities.
- Contribute to roster planning and seasonal staffing requirements in collaboration with Restaurant Managers.
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Assist with purchasing and pricing of goods within budget guidelines.
- Maintain accurate stock records, cash handling processes, and financial documentation.
- Complete shift reports, cash-ups, and compliance paperwork.
- Support cost-control measures and contribute to achieving revenue targets.
Guest Engagement
- Engage proactively with guests to assess satisfaction with meals and service.
- Handle complaints calmly, professionally, and with a solutions-focused approach.
- Manage reservations, greet guests, and assist with orders and service as needed.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum two years of hospitality leadership experience, ideally in a restaurant, winery, or events environment.
- Strong knowledge of food, wine, and premium service standards.
- Demonstrated experience in training, coaching, or mentoring hospitality staff.
- Proficiency with POS systems (MenuMate), booking platforms (ResDiary), and cash handling.
- Holder of LCQ and Manager's Certificate, or willingness to obtain both.

Conditions
This role is full-time and based on Waiheke Island. There is an option for staff accommodation on the island.
