Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We are looking for people as passionate about data as we are. In Sector Insights, we are united in a common goal of using data to drive insights to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. We support justice agencies to work together to deliver ambitious results for a fair and safe Aotearoa.
As an Analyst (Level 1), you'll play a key role in producing the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey (NZCVS) - a nationwide survey that provides a vital picture of both reported and unreported crime. This work is central to understanding what's happening, why it's happening, and how we can make a difference.
You'll apply your research, statistical, and coding skills to design, analyse, and interpret survey data, and you'll explore complex issues facing the justice sector. Sometimes you'll work to a clear hypothesis; other times, you'll dive into the data to uncover patterns and insights that others might miss.
Critically, you'll turn complex findings into clear, plain-English narratives that help decision-makers and the public understand what's happening and why.
Now is an exciting time for you to become part of the Ministry of Justice in Sector Insights as advice we provide is highly sought after. Our work is characterised by innovation, quality, and impact, and we inform the direction of Justice agencies.
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Passion and curiosity - with a strong desire to explore new opportunities for using data insights
- A positive can-do attitude and willingness to learn
- Flexibility to respond to ambiguity, multiple deadlines and changing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Experience in statistical analysis and/or social survey research.
- A delivery focus, with persistence to work towards long term goals
- Good communication skills and the ability to translate your findings into a compelling plain-English narrative
- A strong sense of team, engaging and helping others around you to succeed
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field, with a strong quantitative or statistical component
- Skills in coding or analytical software (such as SAS, R, or similar).
