Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand University of Auckland Full time NZ$62,000 - NZ$72,000
Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Join us in shaping a safe, supportive, and engaging living and learning environment for our university students.

We are seeking a highly organised and professional individual to join our student accommodation team as a Kairuruku Wharenoho | Resident Coordinator based in central Auckland (Stuart McCutcheon House). This varied role focuses on the emotional, physical, and academic well-being of all residents, providing a unique dual focus on student welfare and operations.

You will support the Resident Manager by splitting your time across three essential functions:

  • Administration & Operations: Deliver crucial administrative support, including purchasing, financial reconciliation, managing emails, and overseeing front-line customer care (e.g., check-in/out, key management). You will also manage operational tasks like monitoring contractor services and conducting building checks.
  • Pastoral Care & Leadership: Manage, mentor, and support our team of part-time Resident Advisers (RAs). Provide front-line advice and support to residents, escalating serious welfare issues as necessary.
  • Events Organising & Community Engagement: Lead the planning and facilitation of small-scale student events (usually between 100 and 300 people), fostering a supportive student community.

Hours of work: Tuesday to Saturday, 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm during the academic year, with flexible hours available over the summer months.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position. The salary range for this role is $62,000 to $72,000, negotiable depending on skills and experience.

A full description of your duties and the role are provided in the position description linked HERE.

He kōrero mōu | About you

As part of the front-line service for Accommodation, you will be friendly, customer service-focused, and empathetic. Ideally, with experience as a student living in halls of residence.

Your application will stand out if you have worked within similar educational or support environments. We are seeking a team player with some supervisory or mentoring experience with a warm, open style and the high personal integrity needed to uphold respectful standards in a diverse community. You must be experienced in a multifaceted role with previous involvement in event planning and execution/operations and demonstrate a willingness to take initiative and embrace new learnings.

Do you function best in the evenings and enjoy lying in during the morning? This is a role for someone who considers themselves a night owl, as you will need to be comfortable with afternoon to evening shifts, including weekend on-call work (up to one week in three).

E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking

  • A Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience, and ideally experience of living in student accommodation.
