About the Role

This role will give you both formal studies and practical experience as an Electrician, working within the Electrical Maintenance team at Lyttleton Port Company

As an apprentice Electrician you will be fully trained in all aspects of repairs and maintenance of a wide variety of powered plant, ranging from wheel loaders, container cranes, PLC programming, generators, VSDs and straddle carriers, to marine diesel engines. You'll thrive in a hands-on role, will have strong communication skills and thrive working independently or as part of a team.

With a practical approach to solving problems, you'll have an opportunity to master a well sort after trade by learning on the job with our highly qualified and experienced Electrical Maintenance team at our Lyttelton based workshop, as well as working towards and achieving your Trade Qualification (NZC in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (Level 4))

Key skills

• New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Pre-Trade (Level 3)
• Show initiative in producing high quality work and demonstrate keen attention to detail
• Proactive attitude and keen to become familiar with workshop equipment, machinery, and its safe operation
• Willing to undertake multi-skilled activities in all aspects of repair and maintenance work
• Hands on approach
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Mathematical aptitude
• NCEA - Level 2 (Year 12) Maths, Physics, Science or equivalent an advantage
• Full, Clean, Class 1 New Zealand Driver's Licence
• Good computer literacy skills (basic standard)
