The Opportunity;

We are seeking three Operations Supervisors to join our Christchurch depot — day and night shifts available. In this role, you will manage all aspects of depot operations throughout the shift to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe running of our transport services. Previous experience in people supervision, transport operations or logistics is highly desirable.

Ritchies is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading passenger transport companies with a team of more than 2,000 people providing coach and charter services right across the country. We partner with regional councils and schools to supply public transport services as well as offering a range of bus and coach hire services to businesses and the general public. You would be joining us at an exciting time in Ritchies' history as we gear up to decarbonise our fleet and move to a more sustainable public transport model.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Supervise and manage daily depot operations: coordinate driver schedules and dispatch, oversee loading/unloading or service activities, and ensure on-time performance.

  • Lead and support a team of drivers and depot staff — including mentoring, performance management, and day-to-day supervision.

  • Ensure compliance with all transport, safety, and company regulations, including licensing and operational safety protocols.

  • Use IT systems and software to manage schedules, logs, and depot data — accuracy and good computer skills are essential.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues (e.g. delays, staffing, vehicle or route problems) as they arise.

  • Work collaboratively with other departments (e.g. maintenance, safety, dispatch) to ensure seamless service delivery and maintain high standards.

What we're looking for;

  • Previous experience in people supervision, transport management or logistics.

  • Strong IT skills — comfortable using scheduling, dispatching or fleet management software, and confident with data, reporting and record-keeping.

  • NZ Class 2 driver's licence; a P endorsement is preferred but not essential.

  • Ability to oversee operations for full shift periods — morning (day) or night — and work flexibly as required.

  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills; ability to work under pressure, make quick decisions, and manage competing priorities.
