Service Delivery Manager
As the backbone of New Zealand's electricity network, Transpower powers lives and businesses across Aotearoa. We are leading the charge to meet today's energy needs while shaping a sustainable future for generations to come.
About the team
The HVDC & Power Electronics team optimises and maintains key assets such as HVDC stations, synchronous condensers, SVCs, STATCOMs, and series compensation systems. As part of our Grid Delivery division, we ensure New Zealand's electricity grid delivers reliable power today while preparing for the needs of tomorrow.
About the opportunity
Based in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch, and reporting to the Service Performance Manager, you'll work closely with engineering teams, regional delivery teams, and service providers nationwide to manage diverse and complex power electronic assets and drive operational excellence across a dynamic grid environment.
Your work will include:
- Taking multiple new power electronics assets from the delivery phase into operation across the country as part of the Waikato and Upper North Island Voltage Management and Upper South Island Upgrade major capital projects.
- Refurbishing the existing SVC and STATCOM fleet, with eight assets across the country due for mid-life overhauls, including new control systems, over the next 10 years.
You will oversee the maintenance, performance, and project delivery for Transpower's specialised power electronics assets across New Zealand. This includes ensuring alignment and standardisation across regions, and providing vital technical support to service providers, projects, and asset management teams.
With multiple large projects scheduled over the next decade, exciting challenges lie ahead. Your ability to foster strong relationships with stakeholders and service providers, optimise asset performance, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards will be key to your success.
Key responsibilities
- Monitoring, analysing, and driving service delivery improvements, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and cost-efficiency standards.
- Providing technical support for maintenance and projects, overseeing commissioning, acceptance, and compliance processes.
- Contributing to long-term asset management planning by advising on asset reliability, performance, and maintenance strategies.
- Leading alignment initiatives for service delivery standards across regions and with service providers.
- Acting as the main point of contact for contractors, service providers, and internal stakeholders, resolving issues promptly.
- Supporting the development and implementation of standard maintenance procedures for power electronics assets.
About you
You are an experienced engineer or project manager with a background in power electronics, asset management, or maintenance. You excel at leading teams, driving performance improvements, and building strong relationships.
To be considered, your application will clearly demonstrate:
- A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- At least five years' experience in project or maintenance management, ideally with hands-on experience.
- Knowledge of SVCs, STATCOMs, or power electronics systems and their auxiliary systems.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills.
- A focus on safety and quality, with a track record of delivering commercial outcomes.
- Willingness to travel regularly and participate in an on-call roster (full and clean NZ driver's license required).
