The role:

As a Carpenter/Handyperson, you will be responsible for both specialist carpentry work and general maintenance duties across our facilities. You'll work closely with the Maintenance team to deliver high-quality workmanship while maintaining health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Interpret drawings and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures.
  • Order and select timber and other materials, and prepare accurate layouts.
  • Cut, shape, and assemble materials; nail and secure components.
  • Erect frameworks and roof structures, lay sub-flooring and floorboards, and check structural accuracy.
  • Install fascia panels, roof sheathing, exterior cladding, doors, and window frames.
  • Assemble prepared wood into structures and fittings ready for installation.
  • Cut and fit wood joints.
  • Construct concrete formwork when required.
  • Repair existing fittings and work with materials such as plastic laminates, Perspex, and metals.
  • Carry out general repairs, maintenance, and alterations to building structures and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks in guest rooms and public areas.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance and ensure hotel entrances and car parks are clean and inviting.
  • Maintain water safety standards (e.g., pool checks) and uphold hygiene requirements.
  • Promote and adhere to health and safety practices at all times.

What we're looking for:

  • NZ registered Level 4 qualification or minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of carpentry and general maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and professional presentation.
