Treasury | Te Tai Ōhanga, we're creating a better future for Aotearoa New Zealand. As the Government's economic and financial advisor, we work hard to raise the standard of living for everyone in Aotearoa, now and in the future.
Mō mātou | About Us
Our talented people bring their diverse backgrounds and experiences to tackling New Zealand's biggest and most interconnected issues. Guided by a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we strive to embed Te Ao Māori perspectives and strengthen Pacific capability in all that we do. Every day, we influence, advise, and support Ministers, Crown CEOs, and Government decision-makers to shape our country's collective tomorrow.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role
Our teams in the
Commercial Performance
division provide advice to Ministers on the Crown's ownership interest in approximately 50 Crown companies and entities, including some of the largest companies and financial institutions in New Zealand. Our aim is to ensure that these entities achieve the Government's ownership purpose - whether sought outcomes or increased value - by operating efficiently and effectively within their intended scope and managing risks, to support the inter-generational well-being of New Zealanders. We are at the interface of the commercial world and central government, and we look for talented people from a range of professional backgrounds to support us in our work.
We have two Analyst positions, based in Wellington, in our Crown Entities and SOE Performance teams - one is permanent, and the other is an 18-month fixed term contract backfilling for the previous incumbent whilst they are on secondment.
The Analyst role will be supporting our advice to responsible and shareholding Ministers on company and entity performance including
- Engaging with stakeholders to build positive working relationships between the Treasury and Crown companies and entities
- Applying analytical tools to improve insights into performance, industry dynamics and key drivers of value and risk
- Providing timely, well analysed advice to Ministers, in particular the Minister for State Owned Enterprises and Minister of Finance, on opportunities, challenges and risks facing Crown companies and entities
- Use your specific skillset and capabilities to support the team's activities and Treasury's wider objectives.
Ō pūmanawa | About You
This important work takes a special kind of person with a passion for making a difference and getting things done. We are committed to employing people, with a wide range of academic, cultural and social backgrounds and experiences, who represent the New Zealand community we serve. The specific experience, skills, and qualities that will help you succeed in this role include
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex problems in a relatable manner
- The ability to influence and work with different stakeholders and experience in collaborating colleagues to support work programmes
- Experience and practical knowledge of applying strategic, economic, and commercial analysis to provide strategic, policy or performance advice
