Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake Trust are seeking a compassionate and skilled Social Worker to join our Education Services team. This role works directly with tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau to identify and address barriers to regular attendance through culturally responsive, strengths-based, and relationship-focused approaches, within a Māori values based framework.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with ākonga, whānau, and kura
- Conduct home visits, hui, and follow-ups to identify barriers and co-develop solutions
- Develop and implement individualised attendance and wellbeing plans
- Collaborate with schools, agencies, and community partners to ensure coordinated wrap-around support
- Record and maintain accurate case notes, reports, and data in line with Ministry of Education and Te Taumata requirements
- Support attendance and wellbeing initiatives, campaigns, and community events
- Advocate for the needs and rights of tamariki and whānau, ensuring mana and cultural safety are upheld
- Participate in supervision, wānanga, and professional learning to enhance cultural and professional practice
About you
You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of tamariki and whānau, with strong communication and relationship-building skills. You will also bring:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Social Work, hold a current practising certificate and be registered with the Social Workers Registration Board
- Experience working with tamariki and whānau, ideally in education, social, or community settings
- A sound understanding of or willingness to develop knowledge of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Reo Māori
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work collaboratively and maintain professionalism under pressure
- A full, clean NZ driver's licence and ability to travel as required
