Your day-to-day:
As Legal Counsel at Lotto NZ, you'll be at the heart of a purpose-driven organisation that gives back to New Zealand communities. Your role will be dynamic and varied, supporting the business with commercially focused legal advice that enables strategic delivery while ensuring compliance and minimising risk. You'll:
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and assist the business in managing the contract lifecycle.
- Draft and advise on promotions, terms and conditions and review marketing materials to ensure compliance with consumer laws.
- Support understanding and compliance with key legislation including the Gambling Act and Crown Entities Act.
- Provide legal input into privacy processes, customer queries, and harm minimisation initiatives.
- Advise on procurement activities in line with government procurement rules.
- Help manage Lotto NZ's intellectual property and support the retail network with legal guidance.
- Deliver legal training and support sessions, establish and maintain contract templates, and contribute to continuous improvement across legal and procurement practices.
This is a hands-on role where your legal expertise will directly shape how Lotto NZ operates responsibly and effectively.
A bit about you:
You're a confident legal professional with a collaborative mindset and a knack for translating complex legal concepts into practical advice.
You thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy working across diverse teams to solve problems and add value. You'll bring:
- An LLB and admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
- At least 4 years post-admittance experience in a commercial legal environment.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand contract and consumer law.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – and a high standard of professional conduct.
- Sharp analytical skills and the ability to evaluate risk and compliance matters with clarity.
