Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand Naylor Love Full time

Shape the future of construction in Wellington.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking Commercial Manager to join our Wellington leadership team. This appointment follows the planned retirement of one of our long-standing senior leaders and presents a rare chance to step into a pivotal role during a period of strength and growth.

Working alongside our Regional Director, you'll play a key part in shaping the strategic direction of the Wellington business, ensuring the continued delivery of exceptional projects, nurturing client relationships, and developing our people.

The opportunity

As Commercial Manager, you'll provide strategic and operational leadership across all commercial and financial functions within the region. You'll work closely with our operations and pre-construction teams to deliver commercial excellence across a portfolio of projects, and a strong forward pipeline.

This role goes beyond the numbers, it's about helping to grow the business. You'll identify opportunities early, challenge the status quo, and help guide our regional strategy with a 24-month lookahead mindset.

You'll also lead a team of talented quantity surveyor managers and quantity surveyors, supported by experienced commercial and contract specialists. With around 30 commercial staff at varying stages of their careers, your ability to coach, empower, and build capability will be key to sustaining the strong, people-first culture that defines our Wellington team.

Key focus areas:

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Operational Leadership
  • Client Relationships
  • Managerial Leadership

About you

You'll be an established commercial leader within the construction industry - ideally from a Tier 1 environment - with proven experience overseeing major projects and leading large teams. You'll have a strong understanding of NZS contracts and commercial delivery across a variety of procurement models.

You'll also bring the following:

  • The ability to operate strategically at a senior management level
  • Exceptional commercial acumen and financial reporting capability
  • A collaborative leadership style that puts people first
  • A respected industry presence, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels

While Wellington experience is preferred, we're open to exceptional candidates based elsewhere in New Zealand who are ready to relocate and make an impact in this market.
