About the role | He kōrero whakamārama mō tēnei tūranga

Are you passionate about supporting the Deaf community into meaningful employment and independent living? Do you have a strong understanding of Deaf culture and the ability to communicate fluently in NZSL?

As an Employment Coach (Deaf Services), you will provide tailored one-to-one and group support for people in the Deaf community as they transition into employment, training, or independent living. You'll be based in Auckland, with occasional travel outside of Auckland, and will be part of our Deaf Services team while working independently day-to-day with ongoing support from our Deaf Team Leader.

This is a permanent, part-time role of 20 hours per week, with some flexibility around hours. Friday availability is essential, with flexibility on other days depending on client needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Deaf clients to gain employment and settle into new roles, including interview and workplace support.
  • Networking with employers, services, and the wider community to build opportunities for the Deaf community.
  • Providing one-to-one and group support, both clinic-based and in the community.
  • Engaging with clients and their whānau to establish strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships.
  • Planning and facilitating activities or programmes to develop skills and confidence.
  • Maintaining accurate records and administration, including reporting requirements.

What you will bring | Ngā tohungatanga mō tēnei tūranga

  • Fluent in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and strong understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Experience working with people who have complex support needs and/or employment support services.
  • Strong networking skills across social, community, and employment sectors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement innovative approaches to support employment pathways.
  • Hold a National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing NZQA Level 2 or above (or willing to work towards Level 4).
  • Current First Aid training (or willing to complete).
  • Current full driver's licence.
