Te Aroha, New Zealand Matamata-Piako District Council Full time

Fixed Term – 18 Months

Do you have a heart for communities, a passion for seeing people and places thrive, and the skills to make things happen? If so, you'll fit right in with our small but mighty Community Development & Partnerships Team at Matamata-Piako District Council.

About Us

We believe in the strength of communities and their ability to deliver meaningful initiatives — and we're here to back them. Our work creates positive outcomes for people while delivering real value for our district. We work across four key streams:

  • Community led initiatives
  • Place and asset activation
  • Partnerships
  • Economic development
About the Role

This is a role with variety, purpose, and impact. One day you might be in gumboots helping deliver a local initiative, the next you're navigating Council processes or presenting to elected members. You'll also play a key role in delivering our Pride of Place programme — helping bring energy to towns, activate public spaces, and create places people are proud of.

Some flexibility is needed — you may need to attend evening meetings or weekend events. These are shared across the team and often the most rewarding parts of the job.

This is a full time, fixed term role (for approximately 18 months), supported by external funding.

We're looking for someone who is:
  • Able to engage with community members face-to-face to build strong and meaningful connections
  • A great communicator and relationship-builder to foster trust and collaboration
  • Strategic and practical in their approach
  • Creative — able to see possibilities and spark new ideas
  • A confident problem-solver who can navigate complexity
  • Friendly, flexible, and genuine
  • Passionate about community, inclusion, and making a difference
  • Comfortable working out in the community as well as in the office and across Council environments
Why Join Us?

At MPDC, people matter — in our communities and in our workplace. Staff consistently say the people are the best thing about working here. We offer flexible work arrangements and a family-friendly environment

If you're ready to bring both your passion for community and your professional skills to a team that makes things happen — we'd love to hear from you.

Applications close midday Tuesday, 25 November 2025.
