Permanent | Eastern North Island | Public Sector
We're working with a respected public sector organisation looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a broad range of capital and infrastructure projects. This role suits someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in a mixed strategic/operational environment, and wants to make a meaningful impact on a growing region.
The RoleYou'll take ownership of planning and delivering projects from concept through to completion. You'll be the central point of coordination, ensuring each project has a clear scope, well-defined timelines, strong financial oversight, and proactive risk management.
- Establish project baselines and maintain documentation across scope, schedule, risks, and budget.
- Ensure projects progress smoothly by identifying issues early and keeping stakeholders aligned.
You'll also play a key part in improving internal project management practices and supporting the organisation's wider capital programme.
- Contribute to the refinement of project and contract management frameworks.
- Support procurement, tender evaluations and contract administration as needed.
This role requires someone who can communicate confidently and build positive working relationships across varied groups. You'll engage with internal teams, contractors, technical specialists, and community stakeholders to ensure projects run transparently and collaboratively.
- Maintain consistent communication channels across stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Provide clarity, updates, and practical advice to keep everyone aligned.
You'll also be relied on to deliver clear reporting to leadership and governance groups.
- Prepare well-structured updates, reports, and presentations.
- Escalate risks and issues appropriately to support informed decision making.
You'll take responsibility for tracking project budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring costs are monitored and risks are controlled. This includes working closely with finance and procurement teams to maintain compliance and accuracy.
- Review contract claims, monitor expenditure, and ensure clear financial forecasting.
- Support consistent financial reporting across the project portfolio.
You'll also ensure procurement and contract management processes are followed correctly.
- Assist with tender processes and contract award recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies and legislative requirements.
We're looking for a seasoned Project Manager with a strong foundation in capital or civil works delivery. You'll be confident navigating complex environments, managing competing priorities, and keeping projects moving with structure and clarity.
- A relevant tertiary qualification with 5+ years in project or programme management.
- Experience delivering infrastructure or capital projects end-to-end.
You'll also be someone who communicates well, collaborates easily, and leads through influence rather than authority.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including presentations and reporting.
Experience in public sector or local government environments is beneficial but not essential - what matters most is your ability to bring structure, consistency, and good judgement to project delivery.
- Sound understanding of project financials, risk management, and compliance.
- A current driver licence.
