About the Role

As the Theatre Services Manager, you will lead the operational and clinical management of the Operating Theatres, Recovery and Sterile Services. Sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in driving performance, maintaining high clinical standards, and ensuring the safe, efficient running of all perioperative services.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Operational & Strategic Leadership: Supporting the CEO to meet organisational strategic goals; contributing to planning, service development, and operational excellence across theatre services.
  • Clinical Governance & Best Practice: Upholding professional standards, sustaining high-quality nursing and technical practice, supporting research and ongoing education, and participating in theatre lists to maintain insight into culture and clinical delivery.
  • Financial & Resource Management: Managing budgets, capital expenditure, staffing levels, rosters and supplies; ensuring services are cost-effective, patient-centred and aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Quality, Safety & Risk: Leading quality improvement activity, maintaining auditing processes, managing incidents and complaints, and ensuring safe systems of work within Health & Safety legislation.
  • People Leadership: Leading and supporting Coordinators, Charge Nurses, Technicians and Sterile Services staff; maintaining a positive culture; overseeing recruitment, performance, development, and workforce planning.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintaining effective relationships with specialists, internal departments, external providers and sector partners to ensure seamless service delivery and strong clinical collaboration.

This position offers the unique opportunity to influence the strategic direction of perioperative services while actively contributing to clinical excellence at every level.

Who We Are Looking to Connect With

You will be an experienced clinical leader with strong perioperative knowledge and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic surgical environment.

We are seeking someone with:

Required:

  • At least 3+ years of leadership experience in perioperative operational management.
  • Registration as a New Zealand Nurse or Anaesthetic Technician, with current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Strong clinical experience in scrub/circulating and/or PACU roles.
  • A Nursing or Perioperative/ Anaesthesia Technology qualification, or equivalent.
  • PDRP Level 4 (Expert) or equivalent senior-level practice.

Desirable:

  • A postgraduate or Master's qualification in Nursing, Health Leadership or Business or working towards.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong clinical expertise in surgical patient care and emergency response.
  • Effective problem-solving, crisis management and decision-making capability.
  • A solid grounding in risk management, quality systems and infection control.
  • Proven ability to manage conflict constructively and professionally.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and resilient leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A proven ability to drive and maintain a thriving and positive team culture
