Active Living Team Leader

About the role:

The Fono is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to take on the pivotal role of Active Living Team Leader. This is an exciting opportunity for a people-focused manager who is passionate about health, wellbeing, and community impact.

You will lead, motivate, and develop a dedicated team responsible for delivering lifestyle programmes that promote physical activity, nutrition, and overall wellbeing for Pacific families. The role oversees the coordination and success of the Enua Ola contract, supports breast and bowel screening initiatives, and manages community-based fitness instructors to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive services.

In addition, you'll play a strategic role in driving partnerships – connecting with projects such as the Diabetes Fight Club, collaborating with community gyms, and strengthening networks that help Pacific families overcome barriers to healthy living. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and performance, you will guide your team to expand The Fono's health and wellbeing initiatives across Auckland and Northland.

About you:

You are a confident and compassionate leader who thrives in dynamic, community-focused environments. You bring a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on management, with the ability to inspire others to achieve shared goals.

We're looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in public health, management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing staff performance (ideally 3+ years in a leadership or management role).
  • At least 5 years' experience in community development, health promotion, or related fields.
  • Strong community engagement and partnership-building skills.
  • A genuine commitment to Pacific health equity and culturally grounded care.
