Front-end Developer - React Native

The Role

We're building the next generation of connected mobility technology — simple, reliable, and sustainable. You'll take the lead on our React Native front end, shaping how people experience Carbn's platform across web, iOS, and Android.

You'll work from polished Figma designs and a live real-time API that powers booking and tracking features. The goal isn't just to ship fast, but to build something that lasts — clean, efficient, and maintainable. We use AI to move faster and learn faster, but never to take over the thinking. If you're the kind of developer who uses these tools as extensions of your craft rather than a shortcut, you'll fit right in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Turn Figma designs into production-ready React Native screens and flows
  • Integrate real-time APIs for tracking, booking, and location features
  • Keep the front end fast, stable, and accessible
  • Use AI tools smartly to accelerate delivery and learning
  • Work with the team to solve problems simply and release with confidence

About You

  • Strong React Native experience, or React with quick adaptability to Native
  • Skilled in TypeScript and state management such as Zustand
  • Confident working with WebSockets, REST APIs, and mobile build nuances
  • Comfortable working with AI-generated output but able to refine and improve it
  • Detail-focused, self-motivated, and open to feedback
  • Thrive in a small, collaborative team where ideas move quickly

The Stack

React Native bare workflow, TypeScript, NativeWind or Tailwind, Zustand, React Native Maps and React Leaflet, WebSocket, BLE libraries, and native modules deployed to web, iOS, and Android.

Location and Working Style

Auckland, Christchurch or Dunedin preferred for in-person collaboration, though we're open to other NZ locations for the right person. We work hybrid with regular time together.
