Altum Academy is a new charter school opening in February 2026 in Wellington, New Zealand, offering a classical education for students in Years 7–9 (expanding to Years 7–13 by 2030).

Rooted in the seven liberal arts and inspired by the Western canon of literature, fine arts, languages, history, and philosophy, Altum seeks to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of learning. Students study classical literature, Latin and Greek, mathematics, the sciences, the arts, and the history and ideas that have shaped civilisation.

Through this classical approach, Altum will prioritise:

About the Role

We are seeking dedicated, enthusiastic teachers to join the founding staff team at Altum Academy. This is a unique opportunity to help build a new school from its beginning and shape a culture of scholarship, character, and joy in learning.

As a founding teacher, you will:

  • Contribute to curriculum design and development in your subject area
  • Deliver high-quality, content-rich instruction aligned with the classical model
  • Foster a disciplined, purposeful, and supportive classroom culture
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build the school's vision and community partnerships

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for teachers who:

  • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and passion for teaching
  • Value academic rigour, good character, and a love of learning
  • Build respectful, positive relationships with students and families
  • Are adaptable, collaborative, and committed to continuous growth
  • Have experience teaching in New Zealand or overseas settings
  • Understand or are eager to learn about the classical model of education

Qualifications:

  • A recognised teaching qualification and eligibility for NZ teacher registration
  • A relevant degree in your subject area
