Our programmes and services are built from the four cornerstones of Te Whare Tapa Wha; Whānau (family wellbeing), Hinengaro (mental/emotional wellbeing), Tinana (physical wellbeing, and Wairua (spiritual wellbeing). Our services include rangitahi (youth) mentoring, parent mentoring, in-school mentoring, financial mentoring, and unique alternative education programmes for high-risk children and young people.

About the Role:

This is a casual Youth Mentor role. As a Community Link Mentor, you will report to the Social Service Operations Manager. You will work alongside and journey with our rangatahi in the Hamilton region, and travel outside Hamilton as required. You will ensure that the vision, mission, and values of Community Link Trust are embodied and reflected in the programs and experiences of our youth and whānau.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a trustworthy relationship with our rangatahi and whānau and identify and address their diverse needs.
  • Plan individual interventions and identify short-term needs and long-term goals for each client, focusing on realising their strengths and potential, and encourage healthier relationships and lifestyles.
  • Create and maintain case notes demonstrating the specific areas targeted in mentoring and showing the outcomes of engagement/mentoring.
  • Maintain Community Link's professional standards and relationships with clients and providers.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working alongside or engaging with youth and families.
  • Qualifications in Youth Work or other related field is desirable.
  • Multi-cultural sensitivity and understanding of, or desire to understand Tikanga Maori.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proactive with strong initiative.
  • Effective engagement and conflict resolution skills.
  • Passion for helping at-risk rangatahi and their whanau find hope and walk towards change.
  • Preferred male candidate due to the New Zealand government requirement of providing male mentors for working alongside boys.
