The role demands an experienced professional ready to make an immediate impact, specifically focusing on converting customers from established, traditional PLC platforms to this innovative control system.
The Role
This professional, full-time role is based in Auckland and reports to the Sales Manager/Managing Director. The core purpose is to provide specialist technical product expertise to develop customer relationships and achieve financial growth targets, with a specific mandate to drive competitive conversion and adoption. The first six months of 2026 are going to be busy, so we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running with a preferred start date in mid-January.
Key Responsibilities:
- Competitive Conversion: The primary focus will be on converting customers from established competitor platforms to proprietary automation software and hardware.
- Solution Selling: Client development for the full spectrum of advanced automation products, including industrial PCs, I/O, fieldbus components, and drive technology.
- Technical Consultation: Conduct product presentations and demonstrations, working closely with customers to understand their existing system architecture and advocate the most suitable technical transition.
- Business Development: Actively seek, develop, and build relationships with machine builders, system integrators, and end-users to achieve sales and margin targets.
- Collaboration: Working closely with internal teams (applications, projects) on accurate scoping, quoting, tendering, and timely delivery.
Requirements and Experience:
We are seeking a seasoned professional with a proven track record of successful competitive sales and immediate effectiveness:
- Education: Tertiary qualifications in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline (Bachelor's degree or higher is preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 6 years of sales experience within the NZ industrial automation market, focused on solution selling and high-value competitive conversion.
- Competitive Knowledge: Proven experience successfully transitioning customers from traditional PLC architectures (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, ABB, Schneider) to alternative control solutions is mandatory.
- Core Technical Skills: Experience with PLCs, I/O systems, and high-speed fieldbus systems is essential.
- High-Value Experience: Proven experience with integrated motion applications (servomotors, stepper motors), functional safety, robotics, and machine vision systems.
- Market Knowledge: Deep knowledge and understanding of customer systems and project requirements in the NZ industrial and manufacturing market, particularly in FMCG.
- Attitude: A proactive, resilient self-starter with a strong technical background, high energy, and the ability to build trusted, long-term customer relationships autonomously and under pressure.
- Travel: Availability for monthly domestic travel within New Zealand and occasional international travel for training.
- Eligibility: Must possess the right to work full-time permanently in NZ.
