We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join our Technology team as Head of Technology Delivery. 

Based in Wellington or Auckland, the position is responsible for overseeing end-to-end delivery of technology programmes, projects, and initiatives across the bank. 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

You will lead a high-performing guild of delivery managers, scrum masters, project managers, and partners to ensure outcomes are aligned with business objectives, delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards. You will also own overall technology delivery governance across the portfolio and embed continuous delivery improvement through measurement, insights and evolving the delivery model.  

What are some of the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? 

• Take a position of leadership and expertise as BNZ continues to evolve its delivery model. 
• Lead and manage the technology delivery function across enterprise-wide programmes and projects. 
• Ensure delivery practices follow pragmatic, best-in-class methodologies. 
• Champion a customer-centric, outcome-driven delivery culture. 
• Ensure consistency and standards are adopted across the delivery lifecycle and ways of working. 
• Oversee portfolio and programme governance, risk, and compliance in line with regulatory and internal standards. 
• Collaborate with executive stakeholders to align delivery priorities with strategic goals.

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity? 

Getting things done in a bank can be complex and difficult and requires aligning (and getting the best out of) distributed teams across the Bank and our Partners. Getting this right takes a unique blend of structure, discipline, experience and the right amount of hustle. Building this muscle in our delivery teams will be a challenge but when you're successful it will come with 100x impact.  

What specific tech skills would be beneficial? 

You are a seasoned technology leader with a proven track record of delivering complex programmes in financial services or other regulated industries. Your experience will include:   

• 15+ years in tech/digital delivery, including 5+ in senior leadership.  
• Deep expertise in agile, waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.  
• Led cross-functional teams on complex programmes.  
• Strong knowledge of banking systems, digital platforms, and integration tech. 
• Skilled in stakeholder engagement, risk, compliance, and vendor management.  
• Financially savvy with budget ownership and reporting experience.

You are known for your ability to bring clarity, structure, and momentum to large-scale initiatives while fostering collaboration and accountability across teams. You are pragmatic and focused on outcomes as opposed to specific methodologies and you possess the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
