Korero mo te turanga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an inspiring leader to step into a newly created role as Te Pakatitia - Principal Adviser, Maori within Te Pataka Korero - The Library on a permanent contract. This is a rare opportunity to influence strategic direction, and shape library services to support successful outcomes for the University's Maori community and its strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Library's Rautaki Maori plan and strengthen our contributions to the University's Strategic Outcomes Framework for Maori: Mai i te Iho ki te Pae.
  • Cultivate and foster effective, enduring relationships with Te Herenga Waka's Maori community to ensure Library services contribute to their achievements and academic success.
  • Collaborate across the Library and University to strengthen outcomes for Maori students and staff.
  • Support all library users and staff in their engagement with, and protection of, matauranga Maori.

O pumanawa - About you

You are a strategic, inclusive thinker with a passion for Maori advancement and equity. You thrive in collaborative environments and your knowledge of Te Ao Maori informs your approach. You will have a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application, ideally in a library and/or tertiary education environment.

Key requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience working alongside Maori communities, preferably in a tertiary education or library setting.
  • Proven leadership and strategic planning experience in complex environments.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and high level of competency of te reo Maori and Te Ao Maori.
