About the role:

Are you passionate about supporting people experiencing mental health challenges to achieve recovery, independence, and wellbeing? Join our dedicated team in Tiaho Mai Ward 40 and play a vital role in delivering compassionate, recovery-focused care to service users and their whaanau.

As a Psychiatric Assistant, you will assist the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, person centred, and effective care to patients/service users and their families/whaanau. Working under the delegation and direction of a Registered or Enrolled Nurse, you will support service users with daily living activities, promote recovery and self-care, and uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in mental health services while working within a supportive, culturally inclusive, and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse, aligned with care plans and HNZ policies.
  • Support service users with daily living activities and encourage self-care and recovery.
  • Promote the social, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing of service users.
  • Work in partnership with families/whaanau to provide information, education, and support.
  • Advocate for service users rights and dignity at all times.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and use clinical information systems effectively.
  • Participate in mandatory and ongoing training, including Safe Practice and Effective Communication (SPEC).
  • Uphold health, safety, and zero harm standards in all aspects of work.

Essential:

  • 1+ years experience in a mental health setting in New Zealand
  • Level 4 NZ Mental Health support worker certificate or equivalent (to be assessed) Please attach a copy of your qualification to your application.
