Employing over 1200 staff in 11 locations, C3 Limited is a market leader in New Zealand's port related product and cargo handling, adding value to our clients' businesses by providing solutions to their transport and logistics needs.

We are looking to top up our pool of straddle drivers and seek experienced drivers of heavy machinery with a minimum full Class 1 licence. Our straddle drivers operate straddle cranes that stack and move shipping containers at the Sulphur Point Container Terminal. Experience as a straddle driver is not essential as comprehensive training is provided to successful candidates who can demonstrate they have the right skills.

With a starting rate of $31.52 per hour while training, this is a permanent position with a minimum hours guarantee, equivalent to 40 hours per week. Applicants must be flexible with their availability as this operation runs 24/7 with shifts generally between 6-12 hours long. Due to the variabilities of shipping schedules the hours are not always predictable.

To be a straddle driver you need to have a calm aptitude and be comfortable working on your own. Your office is a small cab suspended 11 meters above the ground where you have to climb up and down a ladder to take your breaks and your only form of communication is via radio.

Essential requirements for the position are:

 Proven heavy machinery driving experience

 Comfortable working at heights

 Flexibility and reliability

 Good communication skills

 Time management skills and ability to work unsupervised

 Ability to meet deadlines

 Willingness to follow standard operating procedures

 Strict adherence to all health and safety procedures

 Minimum of Full Class 1 driver licence
