About the Role

As an Emergency Medicine Doctor in our Fellowship programme, you will work within a dynamic, high-volume Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital, seeing over 135,000 patients per year. Approximately 25% of these patients are admitted, offering rich clinical exposure.

Your time will be split between hands-on clinical work and dedicated non-clinical Fellowship activities tailored to your area of interest.

Subspecialty Fellowship areas include:

  • Hyperbaric and Dive Medicine
  • Ultrasound
  • Medical Education and Simulation
  • Research
  • Toxicology
  • Health Informatics
  • Geriatrics in ED
  • Palliative Care

This is not a clinical fellowship in the UK sense - it is designed for doctors nearing the completion of Emergency Medicine training or within five years post-Fellowship.

Our Emergency Department team in Waipapa, Christchurch, is renowned for clinical excellence and as a finishing school for Advanced Trainees, Fellows, and new Consultants. You will also spend time working in our rural ED in Ashburton (two shifts every seven weeks), giving you exposure to a different pace and scope of emergency medicine practice.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be an advanced trainee nearing completion of Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (post-written exam), or
  • Be within five years post-Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, or
