DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY | TE TARI MATŪ KOIORA
FACULTY OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES | TE KAUPEKA MĀTAI ROKOĀ-KOIORA
About us | Mō mātou
The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. We teach biochemistry, genetics, plant biotechnology, and related subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and carries out research into how life works at the molecular level.
The Role | Te Mahi
This research project, based within the Rare Disorder Genetics Lab, will be to identify and analyse novel genetic variants causing developmental disorders. Variants will be identified through analysis of exome and genome sequencing dataset and investigated using a variety of molecular biology approaches examining consequences to transcripts, proteins and at a cellular level.
At the heart of our research programme are our participants and families, where our main goal is to help find answers for their genetic disorders. We work closely with clinical and diagnostic genetics in New Zealand and internationally. You will be coordinating the organisation of both clinical and genetic data, ensuring timely responses to clinician queries, and keeping on top of all the samples and information – together, managing this core aspect of our lab to an excellent standard.
You will also be assisting with research supervision within the wider Bicknell group, therefore a keenness to support others and a can-do attitude will be welcomed
Our lab values: we are proud to produce robust scientific insight through our research. We are big on kindness, inclusivity, teamwork and appreciation of others. Science can be tough, so we support each other and work together to achieve our goals.
