Hazel Foods Limited is a trusted food service business based in Timaru, Canterbury, dedicated to delivering great-tasting meals made with fresh, quality ingredients. We are looking for a motivated and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate will take pride in preparing delicious food, work well under pressure, and contribute to maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to company recipes and portion standards.
  • Organise and prepare ingredients to ensure smooth and timely food service.
  • Coordinate cooking tasks during busy periods to meet customer demand efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and warmers safely and effectively.
  • Ensure all dishes are presented consistently, maintaining quality, portion control, and speed of service.
  • Monitor stock levels, assist with inventory rotation, and report low supplies to management.
  • Adjust menu items when required to meet customer preferences or dietary needs.
  • Follow strict food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Support and guide new team members on food preparation and hygiene practices when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in all kitchen areas, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Plan and contribute to menu development by introducing new dishes or improving existing recipes in line with customer feedback and seasonal availability.
  • Supervise kitchen operations during shifts, ensuring all team members follow standard procedures and maintain consistent food quality and timing.

Work Hours and Benefits

  • Required to work for a minimum of 30 hours per week

  • Paid between $25 to $30 per hour.

Other Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Able to work on weekends and late shifts as required.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a positive attitude.
  • Good time management and organisational abilities to handle busy periods efficiently.
  • Physically fit and capable of standing for extended periods in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Reliable, dedicated, and passionate about delivering quality food and service.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour
