About the role
The Maintenance and Services Engineer has primary responsibility for ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of the utilities and mechanical systems for our new petfood manufacturing plant. This includes the management, maintenance, and performance of key infrastructure such as boilers, HVAC systems, air compressors, water treatment plants, and trade waste systems. The role provides technical expertise, preventive maintenance leadership, and operational oversight to support continuous facility performance and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations and Maintenance
Monitor, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical systems, including:
Boilers – operation, monitoring, safety checks, and routine servicing.
- HVAC Systems – inspection, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and performance optimization.
- Air Compressors – service, repair, and ensure system reliability for plant operations.
- Water Treatment Systems – manage chemical dosing, filtration, and water quality monitoring.
- Trade Waste Systems – oversee compliance, sampling, and proper waste disposal in accordance with environmental standards.
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and extend asset life.
- Conduct fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance on utility systems.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and service records for all equipment.
Management and Compliance
- Ensure all systems and operations comply with statutory, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with external contractors, service providers, and internal departments to support maintenance and project activities.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and incident investigations.
- Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance tools to ensure readiness for scheduled and emergency tasks.
- Participate in audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Actively participate in developing the site OH&S standards
Continuous Improvement and Projects
- Identify and implement opportunities for system efficiency improvements, energy reduction, and cost savings.
- Support capital and engineering projects, including design review, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Train and support other staff in the operation and maintenance of plant services.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Degree or Trade Qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in industrial or commercial maintenance roles.
- Strong working knowledge of boilers, HVAC systems, compressors, and water treatment systems.
- Understanding of trade waste management and environmental compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and comply with site and statutory requirements.
Desirable:
- Boiler operation or pressure vessel certification.
- HVAC and refrigeration handling license (if applicable).
- Confined space, working at heights, and LOTO training.
- Experience in FMC manufacturing, beverage, or utilities environments.

- 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime or call-out work as required.
