Corporate Counsel / Senior Corporate Counsel (12 month Fixed Term Contract)

Are you an experienced lawyer looking for a rewarding fixed term opportunity? UDC Finance Limited ("UDC"), New Zealand's largest non-bank finance company, is seeking a talented mid or senior lawyer to join our highly regarded legal team for a 12 month maternity leave cover. About the Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll be an integral part of UDC's cohesive, close-knit legal team, providing commercially focused legal advice across all areas of the business. Your work will be varied and stimulating with no two days being the same. Work includes:

  • Assisting with transactions and reviewing commercial contracts
  • Advising on marketing issues
  • Assisting in customer dispute resolution
  • Contributing to business projects and collaborating with various stakeholders (including the Executive Team) and external counsel to develop strategies to mitigate risk and respond to regulatory changes
  • Advising on consumer, business, and wholesale finance products
  • Preparing and delivering legal training to the business

This role is a fixed-term (12 months) position based in Auckland's CBD, with flexible work options available.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified lawyer with NZ practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one)
  • Mid to senior legal experience gained in private practice or in-house, ideally with banking or financial services orientation
  • Good working knowledge of relevant laws, including the CCCFA and/or PPSA
  • Ability to provide clear, pragmatic solutions and aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships
  • Ability to simplify complex legal issues and communicate these clearly
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and team-oriented approach
