Automation Technician – Te Puke

EastPack is NZ's leading grower-owned kiwifruit post-harvest service provider, operating some of the most sophisticated equipment in the industry.

We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, technically minded individual with strong mechanical aptitude and experience in automation to join our team in Te Puke.

As an Automation Technician, you'll be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our automated production systems. This includes proactive monitoring, maintenance, and repair of equipment, while supporting production teams during peak demand periods. You'll play a key role in maintaining a clean and organized work environment and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Food Safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate automated equipment to ensure smooth and efficient production.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance tasks to keep systems running effectively.
  • Complete routine operator care and cleaning tasks to maintain equipment performance.
  • Check system interfaces for alerts or faults and take corrective action or escalate issues as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in line with workplace standards.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work collaboratively with the team.
  • Provide flexible support across automation areas during peak demand periods.
  • Promote and comply with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and company policies.
  • Report issues promptly to ensure timely resolution.
  • Be adaptable and ready to take on additional tasks as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong mechanical/technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent work ethic, punctuality, and adaptability.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
  • Good eye-hand coordination and ability to react quickly to issues.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends during peak season (March–June).
