About Us
Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is a kaupapa Māori organisation based on a whānau-first, tikanga-based, wellbeing approach. Our organisation works to a model of care centred around our pou (guiding principles) of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, arohatanga, rangatiratanga, tika and pono. We deliver health and social services across the lifespan and have a team of over 100 people working across Hamilton city and beyond.
About the Role
The Housing Navigator plays a vital role within Korowai Manaaki, supporting whanaunga experiencing housing instability to secure and sustain safe, appropriate housing. This is a permanent, full-time role (8:30am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday) focused on advocacy, case management, and wrap-around support to help whanaunga achieve long-term wellbeing and independence.
You will work closely with whanaunga, whānau, housing providers, and community agencies to remove barriers, build strong relationships, and create pathways toward sustainable housing solutions grounded in kaupapa Māori values.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of whanaunga, providing holistic housing and wellbeing support.
- Advocate for whanaunga needs and collaborate with whānau, housing providers, and agencies to secure and sustain housing.
- Support rangatahi to strengthen cultural identity, build life skills, and connect with community opportunities.
- Assist with tenancy transitions and provide practical support during move-ins and move-outs.
- Maintain accurate case notes and contribute to reporting requirements.
- Actively participate in kaupapa Māori initiatives and organisational events.
Skills
- Strong advocacy and case management skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with whanaunga, whānau, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of housing systems, tenancy rights, and support services.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Cultural responsiveness and willingness to learn kaupapa Māori approaches.
Experience
- Experience in housing support, social services, or case management roles.
- Background in advocating for clients and working with multiple stakeholders.
- Familiarity with housing placement processes and tenancy sustainment strategies is advantageous.
Qualifications and Education
- Relevant qualification in social services, youth work, community development, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Full New Zealand driver licence (manual preferred) and ability to pass Police and MSD vetting are required.
