We are seeking a skilled and reliable Science Technician to join our secondary school team from January 2026. The successful applicant will provide essential technical support to the Science Department, ensuring that practical lessons and experiments run safely, efficiently and effectively across all science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Science). Laboratory Manager skills or qualifications are desirable but not essential.
This position suits someone who enjoys hands-on work, is highly organised, and can stay calm and resourceful in a busy laboratory and classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain and set up laboratory materials, solutions, and equipment for science practicals.
- Safely handle, store and dispose of chemicals and biological materials in accordance with health and safety regulations.
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure laboratories and prep areas are tidy and well-stocked.
- Assist teachers with practical demonstrations and the development of new experiments.
- Ensure all safety procedures are followed, including maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and compliance with the HSNO Act.
- Perform basic maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment.
- Support students and teachers during practical lessons when required.
- Assist on field trips where appropriate

This position is for 30 hours per week, worked term time only and commences onThursday 29 January 2026.
Remuneration: This job is in Grade 2 of the Science Technicians Support Staff Collective Agreement.
