Job Description

As a Senior Unreal Software Engineer at Prismatic Studios, you'll collaborate with studios around the world to help their teams solve complex technical challenges. You'll work directly in Unreal Engine's source code, investigate new and evolving engine features, and develop practical solutions to support large-scale production environments. Your technical expertise and clear communication will be essential in finding technical solutions for partners.

This role requires 
proficiency in written Chinese
, as you will collaborate closely with international teams and external partners where Chinese is the primary language of communication. Strong English communication skills are also required.

The position is a full-time remote or on-site contract role based in Auckland, New Zealand. Please note, you must have the right to work in New Zealand to be eligible for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with international studios (including AAA studios) to diagnose, investigate, and resolve complex technical issues across a variety of projects.
  • Work directly within Unreal Engine's source code to implement, debug, and optimise engine-level systems.
  • Analyse and address performance and stability challenges in large-scale production environments.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and provide clear, well-reasoned guidance on architecture and implementation approaches.
  • Review and maintain high standards of code quality, ensuring solutions are reliable, maintainable, and efficient.
  • Share technical knowledge with internal and external teams through mentorship, documentation, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Communicate clearly with both English and Chinese-speaking teams to ensure smooth coordination and understanding across all parties.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional game development experience, with significant focus on Unreal Engine.
  • Proficiency in written Chinese is required
    , along with strong English communication skills.
  • Expertise in C++ and Unreal Engine development, including experience working with engine source code.
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine project architecture, design philosophies, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, including performance and stability problems at both engine and project levels.
  • Skilled at diagnosing and resolving technical issues, including performance bottlenecks and low-level bugs.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving abilities and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with source control systems (Perforce, Git, etc) and Agile software development practices (Jira, Confluence, etc).
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to mentor, provide, and receive constructive feedback.
