About the RoleThe purpose of this role is to lead and oversee kitchen operations by supervising and delegating tasks to Cooks and Kitchen Hands. You'll ensure all food preparation and menu items are delivered to the highest standard, in alignment with our menu and the guidelines set by the Food & Beverage Events Manager. This role is focused on maintaining exceptional quality and consistency to meet and exceed customer expectations.
What You'll Do- Supervise and support a team of 5 kaimahi in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Prepare and present menu items to the highest standard
- Champion food safety compliance and maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen
- Manage stock, ordering, and cost control
- Foster a positive team culture and encourage professional growth
- Lead sustainability initiatives and promote the Tiaki Promise
- Embrace cultural confidence and Ngāi Tahu values in your daily work
- Minimum 1 year experience in a professional kitchen
- Experience supervising or managing kaimahi desirable
- NZ Certificate (Level 3 or higher) in Cookery or equivalent
- Food Safety certification within the past 3 years
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver results
- A customer-focused nature with a sense of manaakitanga
- Openness to learning and embracing a bicultural environment
