Our Client

Our client is a dynamic financial services company with a strong social purpose and ultra-sharp commercial credentials. Currently employing more than 200 people who have over 70,000 customer transactions per annum, it enjoys 40% year on year growth, is very profitable, and has aspirations beyond Australasia. Clients include household names with significant customer bases. Many employees have become shareholders, rewarded for their ambition and values.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be varied and cover every chapter in the legal, risk, compliance and governance playbook. You'll bring skills and knowledge to in at least two of the following - corporate advisory, transactional, financial services, regulatory, or technology law.

  • Provide strategic, high-quality, and commercially-focused legal advice
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and legal instruments
  • Support the firm's regulatory, compliance, and risk management activities including working closely with the Head of Legal, Risk and Compliance to build and scale the function here and in Australia
  • Contribute to ongoing development of legal tools, templates, and resources to support the practice, and
  • Mentor and provide guidance to more junior legal counsel and line managers as required.

What we're looking for

  • 4-8 years' post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a large commercial law firm or in-house legal team
  • Substantial experience across a broad range of corporate and commercial legal practice areas, including contracts, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, and financial services
  • A proven track record of providing pragmatic, commercially-focused legal advice and services to operational staff and senior stakeholders, or if coming directly from private practice to clients in the consumer, financial services, or regulatory sectors and
  • A self-starter who can work at pace, juggle multiple stakeholders' needs, and explain legal and risk to line managers.
