About the Role

As a Nurse Educator, you will play a pivotal role in the professional development of nurses across the Waikato District and contribute to innovative models of care that extend beyond traditional hospital settings.

You will be part of the clinical nursing leadership group, supporting and fostering excellence in practice.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identifying and responding to workforce learning needs.
  • Embedding culturally safe and equity-driven care.
  • Supporting undergraduate students, RN & EN graduates and nursing staff
  • Facilitating learning in both urban and rural settings.
  • Contributing to emerging service delivery approaches that enhance patient care closer to home.

Join the Professional Development Unit (PDU) at Waikato Hospital as a Nurse Educator holding the Medical Nursing portfolio. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine educational leadership with clinical expertise, supporting nurses and allied health professionals across inpatient and community medical services.

About Hamilton

Waikato Hospital is a major regional hospital in Hamilton and is a leading tertiary teaching hospital located in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, which includes the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts. About you

You are an experienced nurse with a passion for education and innovation.

You bring:

  • A current annual practice certificate with New Zealand Nursing Council
  • Strong clinical knowledge in medical nursing with four years post registration experience.
  • Proven experience in facilitating and assessing learning in clinical environments
  • A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity in healthcare to improving Maori health outcomes.
  • A relevant adult teaching qualification e.g. preceptorship, adult education.
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate study.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A current New Zealand Drivers licence.
