Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand University of Waikato Careers Full time NZ$56,344 - NZ$65,961
  • Support student wellbeing in a welcoming, dynamic environment
  • Part-time role covering fixed-term parental leave at Hillcrest
  • Gain hands-on experience in clinical and administrative duties

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

In this role, you'll play a key part in supporting the wellbeing of our student community. Working under the guidance of the Clinical Nurse Manager, you'll carry out a variety of administrative and clinical duties that keep our service running smoothly and ensure students receive timely, high-quality care.

You'll work closely with our healthcare team, assisting with assessments, providing health promotion support, and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for every student who walks through our doors.

As one of the first points of contact, you'll deliver warm, professional customer service—making sure students feel understood, supported, and confident in the care they receive from Student Health.

If you're compassionate, organised, and committed to making a positive impact on student wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you.

The salary for this role ranges from $56,343.75 to $65,960.62 per year (pro-rata) depending on the skills, knowledge, and experience you bring to the position. This is a part-time role (20 hours per week) on a fixed-term basis, ideally starting in February 2026 and continuing through to December 2026 to cover parental leave. The role will be based at our Hillcrest Campus.

For more information on the role please see the position description. For a confidential conversation about the role, please contact Jo Thomas, Clinical Nurse Manager,  All applications must be submitted through the online portal, emailed applications will not be accepted.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

You're a compassionate, organised individual with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in supporting student wellbeing. You're confident working both independently and as part of a busy, multidisciplinary team, and you bring a positive, solution-focused attitude to everything you do. You have a good general education (NCEA Level 2 or equivalent), are comfortable using Microsoft Office, and are willing to learn new systems and skills—phlebotomy included. Experience in primary care, general practice, or community health is an advantage, as are First Aid, CPR, or other relevant health qualifications.

You work well with young people, value cultural awareness, and can relate to students from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity and respect. You stay organised under pressure, manage competing priorities, and contribute to a collaborative, flexible, and inclusive team culture. An interest in youth or women's health, and knowledge of Te Reo, Tikanga, or additional languages, will help you thrive in this role and make a meaningful impact on our student community.

Don't meet every single requirement?

Research shows that some people are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every qualification. At The University of Waikato, we're committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and genuine workplace. So, if you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't perfectly match every listed qualification, we still encourage you to apply. You might be just the right person for this or another opportunity on our team.
