Ko wai mātou - About us
Te Aho o Te Kahu, the Cancer Control Agency, leads and oversees cancer control across Aotearoa with a system-wide, equity-led approach. It ensures progress towards the National Cancer Action Plan and focuses on outcomes that are person and whānau-centred. Within the agency, the Data and Analytics team drives equitable cancer outcomes through innovative data solutions, process improvements, and storytelling that reflects the experiences of all New Zealanders affected by cancer.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
Are you a Business Analyst who thrives on turning complexity into clarity? Join Te Aho o Te Kahu and play a pivotal role in shaping how cancer data and digital systems improve outcomes for people across Aotearoa. This is a unique opportunity to apply your analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills in a role that directly contributes to better, fairer cancer care.
As part of our Data & Analytics team, you'll help deliver national cancer informatics programmes - including our flagship initiative, CanShare. Working with clinicians, Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, vendors, and internal teams, you'll ensure our systems and solutions are practical, connected, and designed to meet the real needs of the sector.
- Shape meaningful solutions: Partner with technical and clinical experts to define business requirements and translate them into clear, actionable plans.
- Be the bridge between people and technology: Help ensure communication flows smoothly across diverse stakeholders, from data specialists to decision-makers.
- Guide delivery and insight: Support the planning, coordination, and documentation of projects that bring our digital and data initiatives to life.
- Bring structure and visibility: Create roadmaps, specifications, and reports that keep teams aligned and stakeholders informed.
- Support continuous improvement: Identify risks, constraints, and opportunities to refine how we work and deliver better outcomes.
- Champion equity and collaboration: Uphold our Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments and help build a connected, positive, and inclusive team culture.
You'll also be a valued member of our wider agency - participating in initiatives that strengthen connection and culture, such as team development sessions, waiata practice, and Kaimahi days.
This role is about people, processes, and clarity - not just crunching numbers. We're after a skilled Business Analyst who can focus on understanding how data and digital solutions support people and processes, rather than on technical data analysis.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who is collaborative, curious, and committed to making a difference. You'll bring:
- Relevant qualifications or experience in business analysis and/or project management (e.g. IIBA, PMP, PRINCE2)
- Experience working in the health sector, ideally with exposure to clinical or digital health environments
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate data and technical detail into meaningful insights
- Familiarity with standards like SNOMED CT and FHIR (advantageous but not essential)
- A proactive, team-oriented approach and a willingness to contribute across projects
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori tikanga and kawa
Join Te Aho o Te Kahu - Ngā tūranga e wātea ana
Working at Te Aho o Te Kahu is inspiring, meaningful and rewarding. The Agency provides an incredible opportunity to work alongside other passionate individuals in leading efforts to drive the changes required to improve cancer outcomes for all New Zealanders.
