Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Northern Region is progressing the implementation of the NZREX Primary Care Pathway,an innovative programme designed to support international medical graduates (IMGs) to transition into Aotearoa New Zealand's primary care health workforce through structured, supported experience in primary care and hospital settings.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Education Fellow to contribute to medical education and workforce development across the Auckland Metro Districts while developing your own leadership, teaching, and quality improvement skills.
About the role
Based within the Clinical Education and Training Unit (CETU), you will work closely with the Programme Clinical Lead, the Programme Implementation Lead, and the Directors of Clinical Training to deliver high-quality education, orientation, and wellbeing support for NZREX Primary Care Pathway participants.
Key responsibilities include:
- supporting the design and delivery of the NZREX PCP curriculum, aligned with prevocational training and regional workforce priorities
- facilitating protected teaching sessions, case-based discussions, and simulation or skills workshops
- coordinating teaching contributions from clinical educators across hospital and community settings
- promoting bicultural and multicultural learning and the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practice
- providing mentorship, wellbeing, and professional support for programme participants
- contributing to continuous quality improvement within the NZREX PCP.
This is a primarily educational and administrative role (0.6 FTE), with no rostered weekends or nights. The role may be combined with a 0.4 FTE clinical position within your specialty, subject to agreement with your Clinical Lead and service.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- holds registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- has an interest in medical education, primary care, and supporting international medical graduates
- demonstrates a strong understanding of equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the role of culture in health outcomes
- is a confident communicator and effective collaborator across multidisciplinary teams
- has a proactive and supportive approach to mentoring and learner wellbeing.
Previous experience in teaching, simulation, or curriculum development is advantageous but not essential.
