At Solomon Group, we are committed to ensuring that every student attends school regularly and has the opportunity to succeed. As a Schools Attendance Officer, you will play a key role liaising with students, families, and school staff to monitor, support and improve school attendance. Your efforts will help reduce truancy, identify barriers to attendance, and work proactively to engage students in their education.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor student attendance records and identify patterns of absence.
- Reach out to students and their families to follow up on unexplained absences.
- Investigate barriers preventing students from attending school (health, transport, social, etc.).
- Work closely with school staff, including counsellors, social workers, and leadership, to develop attendance improvement plans.
- Organise or refer to external support services where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare attendance reports.
- Conduct home visits when required.
- Promote a positive and inclusive school culture around attendance.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Full and valid Driver's Licence
- Clean criminal record.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), comfortable working with students, whanau (families), and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage time.
- Empathy, patience, persistence; ability to build trust with families and students.
- Good organisation and record‑keeping skills.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in school administration or community outreach.
- Familiarity with New Zealand schooling system, truancy policies, or relevant legislation.
- Experience in working with at‑risk youth or in social services.
- Fluent in Te Reo Maori
- OR fluent in Samoan
