is working in partnership with a highly regarded, modern commercial law firm in Auckland to recruit an experienced Commercial Litigation Associate / Senior Associate to join a growing professional and financial services disputes practice.

The Opportunity

You will join a respected commercial disputes team with a strong focus on:

  • Professional indemnity and financial services litigation
  • Claims involving lawyers, accountants, auditors, trustees and financial advisers
  • Acting for insurers, underwriters, corporates and professional services firms

You will work closely with highly experienced partners while running your own matters with appropriate support. The role combines hands-on litigation, client advisory work, mentoring, and business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run your own commercial litigation matters (with supervision as needed) in the High Court and appellate jurisdictions
  • Assist on complex and high-value matters
  • Provide strategic advice to insurers and corporate policyholders
  • Support defended insurance and professional indemnity claims
  • Conduct detailed legal research and prepare high-quality written advice
  • Appear in court, mediations and hearings
  • Play an active role in business development, client meetings and pitch preparation
  • Mentor and support junior lawyers through informal supervision and knowledge-sharing
  • Contribute to precedents, knowledge management and internal training
  • Assist with financial management including estimates, billing and fee recovery

About You

We are seeking a confident, commercial and collaborative litigator who enjoys working in a team-focused environment.

You will ideally have:

  • 3+ years' PQE in commercial litigation
  • Strong technical ability combined with practical problem-solving skills
  • A proactive approach with excellent client communication skills
  • The ability to manage matters with a high level of autonomy and accountability
  • A genuine interest in mentoring and contributing to team development
