Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Rocket Lab Full time

About Rocket Lab
Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company delivering responsive launch services, complete spacecraft design and manufacturing, payloads, satellite components, and more – all with the goal of opening access space. The rockets and satellites we build, and launch enable some of the most ambitious and vital space missions globally, supporting scientific exploration, Earth observation and missions to combat climate change, national security, and exciting new technology demonstrations.

Our Electron rocket has become the second most frequently launched U.S. rocket annually and has delivered more than 230 satellites to orbit, all while we work to develop Neutron, our upcoming medium-lift, reusable launch vehicle for larger constellation deployment. Our Space Systems business designs and builds our extensive line of satellites, payloads, and their components, including spacecraft that have been selected to support NASA missions to the Moon and Mars and components used on the James Webb Space Telescope.

About Rocket Lab
At Rocket Lab, we're on a mission to redefine space exploration and push the boundaries of innovation. As a global leader in aerospace technology, we design, build, and launch rockets that deliver satellites, payloads, and dreams to orbit. We're looking for passionate problem-solvers to join our team and help us tackle exciting challenges that shape the future of space exploration.

Internship Overview
Rocket Lab is transitioning from a legacy CAD system (SolidWorks) to Siemens NX to enhance our engineering capabilities. We're seeking a driven intern to support this critical migration project. This is your chance to work on cutting-edge tools, develop automation solutions, and contribute to the systems that help us launch rockets into space.

What You'll Do

  • CAD Data Migration: Assist in migrating CAD data from SolidWorks to Siemens NX using advanced translation tools.
  • Automation with Python: Use your scripting skills to develop Python-based solutions that automate repetitive tasks and streamline the migration process.
  • Data Validation: Compare and validate updated files to ensure data quality, accuracy, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • 2D Drawing Updates: Update or create linked 2D drawings in Siemens NX as needed to support design workflows.
  • Problem-Solving: Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot issues, resolve discrepancies, and optimize workflows.
  • Documentation: Document processes, workflows, and automation scripts to ensure knowledge transfer and scalability.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX preferred).
  • Proficiency in Python scripting, with a passion for automation and problem-solving.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring data quality.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and workflows.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Bonus: Experience with data validation, quality assurance, or CAD file management.

Additional Requirements

  • Able to work full-time, on-site for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning November 24, 2025.

When applying please include a detailed cover letter stating what interests you about Rocket Lab and this role in particular. Feel free to be creative and stand out in your application and introduction to the team at Rocket Lab. Be sure to include relevant experience /personal or school projects you have completed that align with this role and why you believe you would be the best candidate for this role.
What To Expect
We're on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth, but that's not an easy task. It takes hard work, determination, relentless innovation, teamwork, grit, and an unwavering commitment to achieving what others often deem impossible. Our people out-think, out-work and out-pace. We pride ourselves on having each other's backs, checking our egos at the door, and rolling up our sleeves on all tasks big and small. We thrive under pressure, work to tight deadlines, and our focus is always on how we can deliver, rather than dwelling on the challenges that stand in the way.
