Salary band & range: BTIS - C $130,021 to $174,428 depending on skills and experience

About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

As the Solutions Architect, you will work closely with business teams across Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the Business Technology and Information Services (BT&IS) group to define solution architecture for projects. Your work will enable successful outcomes for MPI by ensuring solutions are well-designed, pragmatic, and aligned with organisational goals.

You will be responsible for defining, maintaining, and communicating solution architecture designs and the associated models for each project. This includes coordinating with internal and external delivery partners to ensure clarity and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to exciting change initiatives that support the realisation of MPI's strategic direction focused on supporting the country's food and fibre sector. You will play a key part in planning and implementing solutions that balance strong delivery focus with practical approaches.

About You - Mou

You will bring significant experience in solution architecture and a proven ability to deliver successful outcomes across diverse projects and platforms within a government agency. Your expertise will enable you to design pragmatic solutions that meet business needs while aligning with organisational goals.

You will be confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels, tailoring your communication to suit technical and non-technical audiences. Your ability to create clear models and documentation will help define target solutions and outline transitional states effectively. You thrive in dynamic environments, demonstrating initiative and adaptability. While cloud and AI experience would be advantageous, your strength lies in applying broad technical knowledge and strong architecture skills to complex challenges.

You have:

• Six or more years experience successfully working as a Solution Architect, including development of Solution architecture designs, across a variety of different solution architecture engagements, projects, and platforms.
• Proven solution architecture experience working in a large and complex NZ Government agency.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of building constructive, collegial relationships to suit technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including tailoring messages for non-technical stakeholders
• Proven ability to create models and documentation that define target solutions and transitional states
• Experience across a broad range of technology domains including cloud services (AWS or Azure) and AI are desirable
• Self-starter with high levels of initiative and adaptability; patient and pragmatic in delivery

The team are comprised of experienced Solution Architects with sound solution architecture backgrounds with a speciality in a technology domain.
