Laravel Full Stack Developer

We are seeking a Contract Laravel Full Stack Developer based in New Zealand to support ongoing product development across both front end and back end. You will join a small, focused team and help us deliver reliable, well structured software that is easy for our users to work with.

About the role:

You will be responsible for:

1. Building and maintaining web applications using the Laravel framework within an MVC architecture
2. Working across the full stack, from database and application logic through to Blade templates and front end behaviour
3. Developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and integrating with third party services
4. Designing and optimising PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, and migrations
5. Translating UX and UI designs into responsive, accessible layouts using Blade and Bootstrap
6. Implementing secure authentication and authorisation flows using Laravel's built in tools
7. Handling file uploads and storage, and integrating services.
8. Configuring and working with environment variables for different environments (local, staging, production)
9. Debugging and resolving issues across the full stack, including performance tuning and caching strategies
10. Working with a dedicated testing team to clarify acceptance criteria, reproduce issues, and validate fixes
11. Working with a marketing team to translate non technical briefs into clear, implementable technical tasks and content changes
12. Participating in code reviews, sharing knowledge, and improving our development practices over time

Skills and experience

You should have:

1. Have at least three years of experience as a Full Stack Developer, including strong hands on PHP and Laravel experience in a commercial setting.
2. Be confident working across the full stack, from PostgreSQL database design and queries through to Laravel application logic and Blade based front end views.
3. Build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate third party services in a structured, secure way.
4. Apply UX principles when implementing features so that solutions are intuitive, responsive and easy for end users to work with.
5. Work effectively with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and be comfortable implementing or adjusting front end components as needed.
6. Use automated testing practices, including unit and feature tests with Pest or PHPUnit, and be willing to work in a test driven way for critical paths.
7. Use Docker and CI/CD pipelines to streamline local development, testing and deployment across development, staging and production environments.
8. Use Git/Bitbucket confidently, following branching workflows and contributing clean, well structured commits and pull requests.
9. Prioritise customer value when making technical decisions, keeping the end user experience and business goals in mind.
10. Be able to work independently when required, while also contributing positively as part of a small distributed team in New Zealand.
11. Communicate clearly with stakeholders, explain trade offs in plain language, and ensure solutions align with agreed requirements and timelines.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud hosting providers and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or similar utility first frameworks
• Prior work on consumer facing web products in New Zealand
