Are you ready to take the next step in your career?

Are you looking for the freedom of flexible working arrangements?

South Taranaki District Council are seeking a motivated team player to join our Building Control team. This role could offer flexibility and can be shaped to suit the right candidate — whether you're looking for part-time or full-time employment, we're open to exploring what could work.

Join us in South Taranaki where lifestyle meets opportunity. Nestled in one of New Zealand's most scenic regions, our district offers easy access to the outdoors, affordable housing, and proximity to larger centres, making it the ideal place to live, work, and thrive.

About our Organisation - We're a forward-thinking, values-driven organisation that's passionate about delivering top-notch services to our community. At STDC, we don't just talk about culture, we live it. Our people are known for their "Can Do" attitude, strong teamwork, and genuine pride in making a difference.

We've built a reputation as one of the best places to work, offering unique benefits like access to a sick leave bank and a retention incentive after four years. You'll be part of a team that thrives on innovation, supports your growth, and works together to achieve great things.

About the Role - As a Building Control Officer, you'll play a key role in assessing and inspecting building work, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the safety and quality of our built environment while enjoying a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle. Whether you're looking for part-time hours or a tailored schedule, we're open to discussing how this role can work for you. You'll be part of a supportive, values-driven organisation that prides itself on innovation, collaboration, and service to our community.

Do you have what it takes? - This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who thrives on challenge and impact. As a Building Control Officer, you'll conduct site inspections, assess building consent applications—including complex projects—and ensure compliance with the Building Act and NZ Building Code. You'll also investigate complaints, enforce legislation, and report on non-compliance, contributing directly to public safety and community confidence.

About You - You're a practical problem-solver with a strong customer focus and a knack for building positive relationships. Experience in the building sector is valued, but your ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and navigate complex situations with empathy and professionalism is what sets you apart. A clean driver's licence and a proactive can-do attitude are essential.

Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, therefore must have NZ residency or hold a valid NZ work visa. In terms of residence class visa applications, priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.

This is a full-time permanent 40 hours per week position offering salary range between $78,795pa and $107,200pa. The appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.

If this role appeals to you, head over to our website where you can access the background information and job description for the role. If submitting an application, please ensure you provide a covering letter outlining your skills and experience for the role along with your most current CV.
