About Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora
Health New Zealand is the country's largest healthcare organisation, committed to transforming the delivery of care for all New Zealanders. As a leader within the public health system, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare infrastructure that supports equitable, high-quality outcomes across diverse communities.
This is your opportunity to contribute to a system that touches the lives of most New Zealanders —bringing enduring change while enjoying the stability, purpose, and challenge of working in New Zealand's essential public services.
Why Join Us?
At Health NZ, you'll find:
- A dynamic, high-impact environment where your leadership will directly influence health outcomes.
- Long-term programme security, with a significant pipeline of capital and maintenance investments in place across the Northern Region.
- A progressive approach to professional development, supporting continuous growth and learning.
- A competitive total remuneration package, including five weeks' annual leave, flexible working arrangements, and a strong commitment to work–life balance.
This opportunity offers a rare combination of scale, complexity, and societal impact.
The Opportunity | Project Manager
Based at Whangārei Hospital the role is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of substantial projects and will act as first contact for updates and progress reports across these projects.
What You'll Bring
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic project professional who can operate with influence and integrity in a complex public sector environment.
You will bring:
- 5 – 10 years' experience managing projects across a variety of project types, ideally in the healthcare sector or government sector construction project experience.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, project engineering, project management, construction management or a related field.
- Thorough understanding and currency in the various NZ building codes and compliance requirements.
- Strong track record applying contemporary project management principles, including risk management and benefits realisation planning.
- Accomplished at delivering projects against specified time constraints and budget.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proven record developing positive and transparent stakeholder relationships.
At a personal level you will be delivery-focused and be able to multitask. As well as having excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be self-motivated and be hands-on with a can-do attitude. You will naturally be a team player and inquisitive problem solver with an analytical mindset and have the ability to effectively manage priorities in order to drive change.
Make a Lasting Impact
This is more than a project role—it is an opportunity to shape the future of healthcare infrastructure; your knowledge and execution will directly contribute to safer, more sustainable, and more equitable healthcare for generations to come.
