Seeking a visionary leader, passionate about equity, inclusion, and empowering communities through language access.
Interpreting New Zealand is seeking a dynamic and values-driven Chief Executive to lead the organisation into its next chapter of impact and innovation.
Interpreting New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing highest-quality interpreting services that enable effective communication between people who speak limited English and both public and private service providers. They are proud to be a values-led organisation, committed to professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and social justice. Their interpreters speak over 70 languages and dialects and serve thousands of clients each year across the Wellington region and beyond.
As Chief Executive, you will have overall responsibility for the success of the organisation in achieving its mission, particularly in promoting and advocating for the use of trained, competent interpreters. You will lead the operational team, provide strong and steady leadership, and work closely with senior staff to ensure high standards in interpreter training and service delivery. You will also manage and support regional coordinators and a large, geographically dispersed team of interpreters.
Key responsibilities and competencies include:
- Critically, be driven by the positive impact that Interpreting New Zealand has on the non-English speaking communities it works for. Commitment to, and empathy with those peoples, is crucial to your success and that of the organisation.
- A unique blend of driving social equity for the large number of those requiring these invaluable services, while taking responsibility for the national growth and "commercial" sustainability of the organisation.
- Superior relationship management and communication skills at every level and with a wide variety of "stakeholders." Effective oral and written communication skills, including advocacy and presentation.
- Authentic and supportive leadership/management style that empowers diverse teams and remote staff and includes experience of effectively working with a Board.
- Ideally, an understanding of the machinery of government to effectively manage and "market" Interpreting New Zealand's capabilities across that complex and critical environment.
This is a unique opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organisation at the forefront of language access and community engagement in Aotearoa New Zealand. If you're excited by this opportunity and believe you have the skills and passion to lead Interpreting New Zealand, we'd love to hear from you.
Your motivation for this role will fundamentally be for the positive impact you can make.
